What Plant is this?
Hi, I'm new to the Bonsai world; my GF bought me this plant, but it came with a label that simply identified it as 'assorted Bonsai'. Not much help there. I think it is a Chinese Plum, but I'm not quite sure on the leaves. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks.

The leaf and bark make it look like Youpon holly, Ilex vomitoria, but I can't imagine how one of those would have made it into your area. Maybe the Japanese holly, I crenata? Its leaf is similar.

Thanks guys; from all the pictures I can find, I'm convinced it is Ilex vomitoria. Let the shaping begin!

I have to concur. It is the only species we've looked at that has those scalloped leaves. Of course you could make some tea from the leaves & drink it. Then you'd know.
