A very old privet hedge
I got to dig a very old privet hedge yesterday. My young student dug for an entire day and got some good lumps with him home. These are some of the trees I got for myself. There is about 6 more plants to dig.
I like the grotesque huge lump, sumo is the word I guess, what do you guys think? I will keep you updated as the trees develop. Good fun and good trees on a beautiful day. Life is good!

Ian, that is one beautiful tree. Privets are fast growers but I guess you have a good 10 years head start on me there. Did you collect and develop the tree? I would love to see some more pictures.

Re: A very old privet hedge
Hi Jan, yeah the tree was collected as a stump. It was about 1 meter tall when I got it and after it budded back I chopped it back again and selected the buds I wanted to keep as the branches, then I carved it. I`m sorry I don`t have any pics of it in developement but I`ll try and sort some other`s out for you
Ian.

Sounds great. I have a couple of other privets that I collected 2 years ago. They where collected as stumps like the ones in the pictures. They where budding from all over the trunk in a matter of weeks so I am really looking forward to watch these buggers grow.
