snow, snow, snow
Hi All,
Got an extra day off work today as the roads are terrible and the childrens nursery is closed!
This is now day 4 of heavy snow. Some of my trees haven't managed to be clear of it for the last 3 days. I know that having the pot covered in snow will act as insulation, but should I clear the snow from the trunks and branches?
Larch and Juniper under about 7 inches of snow
Cotoneaster, Elm and Azalea just poking through!
Prunus and Privet
Cotoneaster raft in the box. I collected it about 10 days ago. Now under a foot of snow
More snow forecast for tonight and later in the week too. The novelty of it has worn off now, even the kids are fed up with it!

Hi Paul... you look like you have had it bad, check out my blog below vvvv and see what its like near me 2cm and the world grinds to a halt!
as for your trees... leave well alone, if you do get VERY cold winds cover the parts of the trees sticking out of the snow with bubble wrap. Desiccation is a killer.

Just in case anyone wonders, a telephone call to home says rain, rain, rain, and it is quite cool, 80's [28 deg.F] in the day.
And if anyone further wonders, winter cold has no effect on me, save I can get very bored outdoors, just walking around, watching sleeping trees and grey skies.
Merry Christmas to All,
Khaimraj

snow snow snow!
Here in Cornwall its colder than normal - it has been down to -6 deg C. (we are Zone 9)
Thank goodness for Greenhouses - all my tender trees and accents are undercover but I am sure that I will lose some of my trees.
In Scotland temperatures have fallen to -21 deg C according to our weather forcasters this is the coldest for about 20 years and its only December.!!!
Happy Christmas to All

Tim, its what we call 'Brass Monkey Weather' its cold enough to freeze the *!$&" off a brass monkey.
Seriously though have you Never seen or touched snow? I find that difficult to believe. You are very lucky if it is true.
One thing is that all of my trees look as good as my bonsai buddies when thay are covered in snow.

Barrie

Well. Snow is just about as cold as the ice in the freezer. That means, not really so cold. The snow is insulating, so its only the winds that are bad.
Get up here to Norway and check out a winter.
I like winters. If I had summer all year round, I dont think I would appriciate the season. Minus -15 degrees celcius here, but not bad to be outdoors - I think.

Great images Will. The pine looks stunning covered in snow.
I managed to get most of my trees out of the snow and into shelter.
We're now at nearly a week of snow with no end in sight.
I made it into work on wednesday at 10:00am and we were told to go home at 1:00pm. My car is stuck in about 40cm of snow and surrounded by frozen slush covered in fresh snow. We got food supplies today, so I aint going anywhere for 3-4 days

Re: snow, snow, snow
Hello Paul. We got about 8" of snow today and the town was at a standstill. I've been working nights and within walking distance. I really love getting into bed in the morning, lovely and warm, whilst listening to people fighting their way through this extreme weather.

I'm getting a bit fed up with it, but I've enjoyed not being at work, making snowmen and an igloo with my kids, and walks with the dog.
Thick snow and freezing temps has one benefit though - The Scottish football team stand a far greater chance of winning the World Cup in Russia

Howzit Barrie,
And yes, sad to say that I never seen snow before. In Hawaii it doesn't get really cold unless you live in the higher elevation. I know your going to laugh but for me anything below 73 degrees is cold. I would be in sweat pants, socks on the feet, blankets and hanging on to "Miss Kitty"!! (Woo-Hoo!!)

Howzit Will,
When I was looking at your post my "Miss Kitty" saw your pictures and said "How Pretty". Then I told her "Can you imagine how cold it is!!" God Help Her!!!

Re: snow, snow, snow
Yuk again. Drove up the mountain to do some shopping this morning. When we got there, the parking lot was white! And more was blowing down.
