other hobbies
for IBC and Khaimraj,
HI.
I would like to share other hobbies of mine...
the bonsai below I made years ago after I visited a bonsai show in the philippines for the first time. this is the event which triggers my interest on bonsai...I decided to paint one several days later based on my memory ( no photo taken) of my favorite tree on the show so the details are not so bonsai yet (pardon me).
my first bonsai...circa 2000
.
another work...circa 2001
rock sculpture of my fist...circa 2004
using angle grinder and nothing else.
... not professional on this, just another hobby.
regards,
jun

Re: other hobbies
Yeah, I figured you had other abilities! Way to much creativity spilling over in the Bonsai / Penjing.
Thanks for the look.
As a thank you, here are my other hobbies. Pottery, I made [ clay body is my own formula - low temp 980 deg.c vitreous ] and is usable - I draw white teas in the teapot / teacup. The lion is from my small collection of collected carved Chinese soapstone, and a little scholar's stone.

My other interest is orchids. They compete with the bonsai for my time & space in the plant room. I have won a few awards.

Re: other hobbies
that's a lovely music Faisal. It can be used as background music for bonsai exhibition...
that's a hobby you can do behind an office table, unlike painting on canvass and rock sculpture.

Speak for yourself Jun ---- I can paint in a suit and that means the paint only goes on the canvas - ha ha ha. An office would be no problem.

Re: other hobbies
Jun et all,
In my spare time, I have made American Indian outfits or regalia pieces. My specialty is beadwork and leatherwork. This is my personal outfit (me approx 7 years ago...with hair). I made everything except the shield, war club (gifted to me by the tribal elders) and shirt (my wife makes ribbon shirts).

Hello Faisal. Good to see you posting again. 4.43am is about half way through my night shift. I saw your flute playing on Facebook...Wonderful stuff.
Faisal
Hello Todd. Thanks for the compliment and I look forward to seeing your picture tomorrow.(don't have access to pics at work) I take it you are Native American or have some link with?

Re: other hobbies
I'm one of those "Jack-of-all-Hobbies" people. I dabble in way too many things, mostly because I like to learn new things. I currently have 40 gallons of wine aging in the basement. I have resumed studying the bagpipes. I had to walk away from the Tae Kwon do because of rotator cuff problems. My wife and I both ride motorcycles. I'm a student of American Sign Language. I'm currently running vehicles on recycled vegetable oil and learning how to make biodiesel. I'm preparing a wood shop for down the road (closer to retirement.) I'm a Ham radio operator. I teach marksmanship and hunter safety. I just downloaded Ubuntu Linux operating system and am studying how to work it. And, I have my family genealogy back to the pre-America era on 2 lines and mid 1800 on the other two.
Yupp! It's an addiction. I quit just shy of a Master's Degree to begin studying stuff that interests me instead of what I think might get me further professionaly.
If I could just stick with one or two, I might actually get proficient at one!

I made it to tech plus, still need to buckle down and take the promotional tests. Had to pass the code test, now they don't need it, what a traditional waste. Besides when the alians try to take over the planet, we'll need code to get past their superior technology! (Independance Day )

Hi Jay,
I have been dabbling in Sign Language for most of my life. I sign with combined English and American Signs. I have interpreted for some functions, but am not certified. I 'm toying with the idea of going for my certification. That appeals more to me than getting a Masters. I wish I could get a Masters in Bonsai!

My dad was a Ham operator. He belonged to a group called the "Possum Trotters". He loved it. My brothers do ham radio too. I never caught the bug; I like the internet; pictures!

Me to Jay. I went up to tech plus and for years didn't take the General Class because the CW was to hard. (13wpm) Now that they did away with it I decided to take it and past it with 100%. (Not trying to brag) All I did was take the practice test online. There's a lot good websites that have good practice test that you can take and all the questions are the same as the ones for the exams. Go for it Jay, I know you can do it!! BTW, I changed my call sign from "WH6CYC" to a vanity call sign "KH6CYC" because most Ham operator recognize "KH6" as Hawaii.
Howzit Todd,
Try I you might like it!! ... _ _ ...

Re: other hobbies
Nice to see the other talents of our regular bonsasi artists.
Todd - that Native American outfit is very cool and definitely not your average hobby.
As for me, I like lots of things, but I'm known as the bonsai golfer, so I spend a lot of time on the golf course looking for yamadori possibilities.
I also like to write, having written a bonsai book, available at Haskill Creek Press, and a novel, available at Amazon.com

I'm presently working on a book of short stories. Takes me forever as hard to find time to write.
And for years I have dabbled in painting. I use acrylics but hope to get back to oils some day.
Royal Lytham and St Annes golf course in northern England.
