I would'nt even know where to start with this tree if i had found it. What you turned this tree into is awesome. Your vision is amazing.

Very nicely done Martin! I like the progression very much. I like the fact that you decided to add the carving on an otherwise uninteresting trunk. Great touch! IMO the only thing I would consider is giving your first branch a bit more movement from side to side to give it some character or perhaps eventually removing it altogether???

Some carving on top of the first branch, connecting to the carving on the trunk might be a good way to go before you decide to remove the first branch. This tree is amazing compared to the "jungle of foliage" you started with. Wow! ThumbsUp

Hello Martin, what a transformation! How do you keep the needles of your Larix quite so short?

Neil Jaeger : thanks I wrote I am only a student of great man .. ......

MACH5: thanks ... i discussed with my friend about this branch...it is yamadori and how I can show it ,hat this tree yamadori is ? Something must remain ......or not ? ... is it not style of this tree ?

Todd Elli: thanks ...I will think about it ...thank

donamitu : short ? I dont think that these needles are so short Cool ... reason is longtime cultivation and care (cutting + feeding) ... thanks

According to Vance Wood, larch needles can be improved by including a quantity of silica sand in the potting mix. I don't think it made much difference on mine. Frequent pinching improves ramification and shortens the needles. I was told to pinch the end of a shoot when it gets to an inch long (2.5 cm). You adjust that for extra weak or extra strong branches. For some conifers, feeding only 0-10-10 during active growth helps make the needles shorter. As it says in the ads, your results may differ.
