pot made of steel
Made by Michael from Germany. Pure steel, several methods applied to get this done, will probably rust, I think, which is fine, 50 cm long, Not VERY heavy, I can carry it around, about 15 kilo, 30 pounds.
I look forward to plant a tree that is worthy to be planted in this pot.
Is steel allowed or does one get crucified?

I think you could have some problems in summer, when temperature increase.... it could be interesting to check the difference between a ceramic pot and a steel pot in term of temperature of the roots...

It looks like slag from iron foundry work, maybe welded together? Is there sand in the surface?

My thoughts as well, one more thing though, what about the high amounts of iron that will be desolved in to the soil?

I am not worried abut the iron in the soil. We have mountains where the water is brown from iron. Plants grow jsut as well or maybe better there than elsewhere.
I am concerned about the heat in summer though. I think I have to put a cloth around it or put it into shade. Or I just use this pot as is for decoration. It looks good. Or I sell it or trade it

I like it very much. Maybe placing some accent or smaller trees around the pot for shade to avoid heating? I use that for my Shohin.

I sure like that pot Walter.
It does look like slag was formed over something while still hot, possibly a sand pile?

It would be really hard to do with the way iron runs into thin streams over vertical surfaces. could it be a vapo-burnout in a sand mold? Maybe it was poured onto a flat sand bed, then forged into shape. At the very least it is a masterful piece!

Another potential idea to protect the tree from the conducted heat of the steel pot is to place an insulating layer between the soil and the wall of the pot. Styrofoam would probably work. Shading the pot from direct sun would also help substantially.
Also, just had an idea that might be better looking - but layer the inside of the pot with fiberglass and resin. It would stick very well to the steel and a dark color added to the resin would make it disappear.
