Howzit John,

Nice job. ThumbsUp Mahalo for sharing.

Question, I see that you put sphagnum moss over your bonsai soil then put moss on top of it. Is this better then putting regular soil to help moss grow? I'm having a hard time with moss to grow around my trees because it's so hot where I live. Any thoughts on this.

John: As usual, masterful work. It's insightful to listen to you describe your thought process in making styling decisions. And kudos to you for the bold move to repot the tree in this sweltering S.C. heat!

Hello Tim, I find that even if I don't plant moss on the sphagnum it grows there in time...not sure what you mean by regular soil but I have never had much success with moss on regular bonsai soil. I don't moss most of my trees but those where the soil could wash out, rock plantings, or those that just need a little extra protection to stay moist I will. Of course I typically moss for shows as well.

Thanks,
John
