Picea Yamadori - first styling
Dear Bonsai Friends
2 years ago when I started my bonsai journey this was my first tree which I broth form nature. It is not some really great material but at that time it was a great discovery for me and in some way I believe it is the natural part of evaluation and bsc. of this tree has some additional value to me.
I left the tree untouched for 2 years and this spring I styled the tree for the first time.
2008-03
2010-06 after the first styling
I didn’t quite decide if this is the front or I will rotate the tree to the right side a bit...so all comments and ideas are very welcome.
Regards, Roland

Hello Roland
Thanks for sharing your tree...I wish I had some "not really great material" like this.
My only comment would be that the raw pictures show a tree with a lot of character and with a lot of opportunities for beautiful deadwood - I personally would love to see you style the tree to take advantage of those attributes. I feel that it is just a little bit too conventional/classical/"just so" at the moment for the potential of the tree.
Even still...nice tree, and attractive styling...thanks again for sharing it. Best wishes.

Nice development.
Are you sure this is the right time to work on a Picea?
Be careful, spruces hate almost anything you do so take one step at the time.

Dear IBC members.
I like to show you the progress of my Picea.
The plan was to make the tree more compact, but somehow I decided to make the tree first a bit lower and make the deadwood more integrated with the character of the tree.
In the next stage I plan to make the Picea more compact and balances, not so heavy on the left side, maybe even try to give some additional movement in the top of the tree (I just don’t know how at the moment).
All comments are very welcome.
Regards, Roland

Very nice tree. Seems little but I think it isn't looking at the first picture. I like very much the branch placement how it forms the triangular often seen.

Looks good!! I agree with what your plans are. I would shorten branches a bit, specially left side. Canopy moved a bit to the right and you can also bend the branches a bit more downward to give more drama to the tree...good luck!!

Dear Bonsai friends.
I like to share the update of my Spruce. It is not some great material, but it is my first yamadori and therefore very special to me. I think that the tree made a nice progress in the last 3 years.

Hi Roland, your tree is looking very healthy and is developing nicely.
Personally I preferred the tree in your Nov 1st 2010 post when it had more movement, the tree has a lot of character in your original pictures from collection which I feel needs to be used in the design of your tree, but it's always tricky when only viewing photographs.
Regardless of my thoughts this is your tree and it is very good work.
Regards
John

I think you have done a great job - and you are right in feeling that it is something special as your first yamadori.
Can we see it from some other angles please?

Hi RolandP
Everything said...nice to follow how this spruce develops, all though I do not often comment on your work (I do like your styling).
best regards from Loke Emil

Hi John. Thanks for your comment. I changed the front of the tree bcs. Of the Nebari which is much better from this new side and was discovered while I transplanted the tree in the new pot. But I have to agree with you that the movement of the tree is gone and my dilemma is still nebari or movement...for now I prefer the Nebari, but maybe I will change the front again.
Storm thanks a lot.
Fiona thanks, I’m sure we all have some trees that have some special value for us. Of course I will post some additional pictures from other sides (today or tomorrow, waiting for sunny weather )
Loke Emil, thanks for your nice reply. I’m glad you like my styling
