Spruce Question

Just picked up a spruce. It needs a little refinement. It has a few nice branches that have foilage pads too far out. If they'll respond to pinching and pruning by back budding it would worth keeing them. If not they should probably come off.

I can't find much on the web about spruces period much less how well they back bud.

Could someone with experience share what I might expect?

Which species? They vary considerably. Show a picture.

Birds nest spruce is Picea abies 'Nidiformis.' That is a cultivar of Norway spruce. You should be able to Google on the species or the cultivar, & get the information you need. I don't recall Norway spruce as being very good at backbudding.
