This web site is acting strange suddenly. Or maybe it is just my service provider or my computer. I get large open portions on the threads and don’t know if there are supposed to be pictures that are not downloading. Anybody else with problems?

The Mods are looking into 'strange' ways that the page is sometimes being displayed... The Interweb is a big animal that we can try to tame... sometimes

There have been a couple of issues lately, but none relating to image downloading, as far as I know. The main one is the "quote" system stopping working as it was. We used to get a graphic of a quotation mark but now we just get this.

My usual answer to anyone having an inexplicable problem is try clearing your cache.

In Firefox go Tools/Clear Recent History or Ctrl+Shift+Delete.

In IE go Internet Options/General tab/Temporary Internet Files/click the Delete Files button. This will delete all the files that are currently stored in your cache.

In Google Chrome go Tools menu. (the wrench in the upper-right corner)Select Options/Click the Under the Hood tab/Click Clear browsing data/Check the boxes for the types of information you wish to delete/Click Clear Browsing Data.

I've tried that and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Am learning to live with it and not use Quote as you can achieve the same effect with copying and pasting the text you want from a previous post. As in:

"...The main one is the "quote" system stopping working..."

As you can see Kev, the "..."..." thing is working for me, is the blank space thing...the birds now get lost in the "negative" space...nothing to land on.

I get excessive "negative space", it seems like, following every post. Some times it's page-after-page-after-page.

It's a pain in the abby-dooby (spelling Fiona?)

KEV...

I tried "...clearing your cache...". Not even a hint of improvement.

Hi Pat

That is exactly what I get. Clad I'm not the only one. Not that I want you to have it also.

It doesn't show up on the messages we see (unless you're getting rid of all the spaces. If you are, don't, so we can see it).

I can see it. Not every time but certainly on occasion.

What might be interesting is for those who are experiencing these difficulties to tell us what system they are using.

When I use the laptop set on IE7 I see the indentation at the right hand side (after someone has used the QUOTE function) and the excessive blank space. When I use my other laptop and open with Firefox, the problems are not so bad.

Cahe clearing does not work. (btw a techie friend has just described clearning your cache as the computer equivalent of hawking and spitting to clear your throat. Yuck!)

Please can someone do a printscreen and post it here for me, so I can see what the problem is. I have seen none of this in Firefox 3.6.3

Bugeye, there is no negative space on your post for me. Oh, and please don't SHOUT!

I don't see anything, either, and I frequently get odd results -- only half pictures showing, etc. -- but everyone's messages here and elsewhere show no extra white space.

A screen capture would be interesting -- if not too helpful. Rolling Eyes

When this phpBB software starts acting oddly (or more oddly than usual), I always bet that an "upgrade" has occurred.

I am on another forum which uses phpBB and there is no change to that.

Here is what I see on occasion - usually after someone has used the QUOTE button:

btw - if someone then "double quotes" - ie quotes from a post in which that poster has quoted already - the amount of negative space is even more marked. As some of the others have already said, sometimes it doesn't even fit on the screen.

Here's how it looks alongside a "normal" post.

Also, when a new page is started within the thread, the problem disappears - until someone quotes again.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. This is something that hasn't happened at all to me in Firefox, so I'm assuming it is restricted to IE.

Yep. Just switched over to Firefox. Not a problem visible.

Wonder if it's happening in IE8 as well? Or could it be a quirk of IE7?

It does, however, seem to be affecting my spelling. I've had to edit several posts since the "problems" started! Very Happy Mad

Happens here as well and appears to be when a "quote" is used and it could be a coincidence but it appears it’s linked to Tony, Kev and Jim Sad but then again they have quoted somebody in their post. I'll check to see if it happened at home as I'm sure the companies network "help desk" isn't interested in my issues...... hey it is my lunch break....sssshhhh

MY main problem with the site is that I get only 1/2 a picture on many posts. I have to click on the picture, or right click and chose "View Image" to see he whole pic.
