Collected Celtis from Oklahoma
The time for digging elms is pretty much passed by. They are about in leaf. But, there are many many excellent celtis (aka Hackberry) left to collect.
The hackberry develop terrific bark and a strange contorted branch structure. They do suffer a bit more from tip dieback than the elms though.
This one came from my favorite collecting spot where I normally get elms. My 7 yr old took an interest and decided to dig too.
He came home with 2 small ones. I will admit I did most of the digging. He can swing a pic, but worked harder at destroying some ant hills than he did at collecting trees. Boys!
Any thoughts on styling would be great to hear although no work other than cleaning it up will occur for awhile.

This is a gem! I love the 'warts' on these Celtis. This one has a lovely shape. I have one in the ground but it isn't as nice as this one. Regards, Todd

I'd kill someone to dig up something that looks that good.

Easy guys......I can take you both. Besides..I will wait & when you both kill one another over the same tree...It'll go home with me
I will however notify your next of kin...and send most of your tools back to your wives.
