Re: Some pots for the new gallery
That is really cool -- maybe not way too much time at all! The glaze effects are spectacular.

I made this unglazed oval pot with Turtles for the Asheville, North Carolina Arboretum Bonsai collection and this time I DELIVERED it by hand vs. shipping. It was a bit smaller than the last one I made that had such a terrible fate. I also did not use the light green ash glaze on the surface of this one.
It was donated to to the Arboretum and the bonsai collection.
I didn't have much time after the firing to get photos before I left for the show. I hope these quick shots of both sides and the top will suffice.
Dale
Here is Dale's pot with it's new occupant - a Chinese Banyan (Ficus retusa).

Thanks for the post Arthur.
I'm glad you found something for it so quick.
What percentage of the collection trees are tropicals now?

Dale - I don't know a real percentage to give you, other than to say it's a fairly small number, whatever it is. Most of the tropical plants we have were received in the initial donation that started our bonsai collection in 1992. I have not sought to increase their number because they require space in the greenhouse, which is limited, and because the tropicals as a whole don't fit that well in the overall identity of our bonsai collection. They are useful, however. In December, January and February, when visitors come here it's nice for them to see bonsai with green leaves and flowers!
Here is another from our tropical holdings, a large Jade Tree (Cassula argentea) planted in another of your pots:

Thanks Arthur. I was happy to see the big Shino round with the Jade on display in October. That is a big Jade! As I recall, the pot was 16ish" across inside.
I'm so glad they are working out for you.

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Thanks Andy and Rob.
I have a few more ideas for "Repaired Pots" coming.
BTW Andy, here is a Tea Bowl that I used your crackle glaze mix on (the one you shared on your post here). First try no crackle, then I worked on it a bit and have gotten this a couple times. About 5" across.
I donated this to the North Carolina Arb. show in Oct, to the free raffle so someone in that area is, hopefully , drinking tea out of it now.

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Thanks for the compliment Andy.
If I see any Brits coming to USA conventions next year (that I'm at) I'll send you a tea bowl home from the USA.
I'm going to try it on some white or light clay and see how it looks. The Chinese white crackle is on a white clay.

Thank you Alexandra.
I've been making the bamboo/sun pots in various sizes, including a much bigger rounded square one I need to refire and hopefully show soon.
Dreaming of 'Zonars' and their Baked Alaska!......

I'm dreaming of Mr. Zonaras' coffee and pastry shop, too
No "Zonar's" any more, dear Dale.
It's gone some years now and it has won its place in the history of Athens....
I'm glad you have tasted their specialty ice cream!

I know. You probably told me that before.
I used to love going to Athens for a few days on my ship. We hit the NATO exchange ( over not far from the old Olympic stadium as I recall) and the street flea markets below the Acropolis, the Plaka and ALWAYS Zonars for fantastic meals. I've never, ever, had baked alaska like that and dream of it often. That flaming mountain of ice cream and covering on the big liquer-soaked cookie..... OK, I'm hungry now.

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Dale, i am head over heels about the third pot down. The dark brown pot with the muted orange-like oxide or whatever that may be. Really cool!
