Do'nt get your hopes up too much. If my Blackthorn was just to sit in my garden for the year, I'm sure it would be covered in flower bud. Being that it was chosen for Bath, you can count the flowers on one finger

Could be the height of restraint, reserve and refinement, a single flower.Being that it was chosen for Bath, you can count the flowers on one finger![]()

Very nice work. Good to see the camaraderie evident there.
One critique of the displays - center the trees on the stands and use a tape measure to get them dead on center.
That Black Pine has nice small needles. Is it P. thunbergii of P. Nigra?

Very nice bonsai presented
And so good to see some praticing the art of displaying, trying different accents and tables i.e. and the expression of the display. This brings bonsai to another level. You surely looks like you have a good time at Dragons.
Best regards
Morten

Thank you for your comments.
I have for a while had a "thing" about centering of trees on stands. I agree with you.
I have tried recently to show some restraint in my critiques.
If I were to try and use a tape measure, likely my fellow members would do me harm with it.

re the black pine, I'll ask David, the owner.

My personal bonsai joy is display.
Chris Thomas and I spend many hours exploring our ideas and feelings within our displays.
Not all our displays are to everyone's taste and often when we look back at our past efforts we can see a progression of our taste by further refinement and restraint.
Capturing these moments makes me happy and that's why I practice bonsai.

Well said Jerry. I find myself more and more drawn to the display side as well (possibly because I'm not as crap at that as I am at bonsai.) I just wish there were more people up here whom I could explore a bit more just like you and Chris and the boys. Groups like yours and top quality shows help to push these things to the fore. Maybe what I need to do is be a bit more of an evangelist up here so we can move on from the garden show type display that is being currently foisted upon us.Jeremy wrote: My personal bonsai joy is display.

I must say it was an absolute pleasure to go to the Dragon bonsai workshop and show. They are very welcoming and it was so good to around such hight standards. That was the first time i have done any bonsai work around any body else who has any interest in bonsai. I know can see how you can learn so much. You get so many ideas off so many people in a short space of time.

Smithy,
The pleasure was all ours. Dragon bonsai thrives on the passion of our bonsai buddies for the art of bonsai.
You sir fitted right in. We all hope to see you again soon.
Did you get to try the cow pie?
It's kinda a tradition to initiate new friend.
Oh and bring Neil with you.
