Re: Music and Bonsai
That's an awesome idea Kevin. To be honest I have a ton of albums still sitting in their zip folders waiting to be heard. Don't know when there'll be time to go through them. It doesn't have to be a trade. I'd be more than happy to send anything you want. Just start building a list and if I have it I'll slap it on a thumb drive and send. There's somewhere over 700 gigs to chose from. Mostly in 320kbs.
Glad to see Fennesz on your list. His album Bécs was one of my faves from last year. You've got me rockin' as we spaek. Another cat to check out in a similar vein: Jefery Cantu Ledezma. He put one out this year called (I think??) 13 Moons. Niiiice!
Here's one from my favorite keyboardist and bassist (although here he's working out a cello:

Re: Music and Bonsai
To me, bonsai is like music, world music.
The best artists feed on many influences to make their own style.
My last buys were Tony Allen's "Film of Life", the soundtrack of "O brother, were art thou?" and... the Turtles' "the Battle of the Bands" But you all know that, don't you? So, since our vision of bonsai is bound to our personal culture, this is the kind of music (among many other genres) that has shaped my vision of "art", roots deep in Europe, head above the Atlantic ocean

Re: Music and Bonsai
This only relates to his music and before the fame, but........
the mystique.....musically overrated.
Always saw Mick Jones as the only one in the band whom could, ya know, actually play an instrument?
Love the Clash.....don't get me wrong......but the guy basically blew the band up for no apparent reason....

well at that time, joe always said he just bashed away while mick handled all the fiddley bits (and thats pretty damn close to a quote)LanceMac10 wrote:musically overrated.

but i can only assume you have never really heard any of the mescaleros (minstrel boy for instance) ?
or the score he did for the movie "walker" ??? (absolutely beautiful piece of music)
LanceMac10 wrote:Love the Clash...but the guy basically blew the band up for no apparent reason....
um... no... even with all the revisionistic his-story tellings, they both agree that it was equal parts mick and joe that tore them apart... along with a heaping measure of fame that was a very mixed blessing/curse.
so... yeah... i guess i can agree to disagree with your BLASPHEMY !!!

Re: Music and Bonsai
Ha.....I refer only to the Clash years....Mick turns around with Big Audio Dynamite?
Joe recorded on the toilet was better!!!
And as I understand it, Joe was VERY involved with many charities and mentorship programs, am I right?
I think thats the lasting legacy he'll leave behind.

Re: Music and Bonsai
its gonna be david for a while now on the spinner...
not just another falling star...
this one was a super nova
leaving behind a black hole...
i do not mind saying that i wept upon hearing the news... unashamedly and freely.
and i do not mind saying it, because i know that i am not alone...
heart on my sleeve ?
nope...
right there in the middle of my forehead.
