I'm Niki.

Me and my friends startted a philosophy discussion group about six months ago. We've been working really hard to make a group with a mixture of philosophy students and real experts, and a few volatile young people who don't know anything about philosophy but seem interested or even passionate.

This is why I am contacting you, an invitation, we need a few serious and expert philosophers who can keep the overall academic standards up, and also some younger and and non-specialist members. We think both are important: students and teachers, and welcome the idea that who is who can be ambiguous. We want to have some serious philosophy -- and some serious fun.

MISSION

The values and goals of free-speech, creativity of message and medium, and being a place for a broad spectrum of out-siders to share their thoughts are in effect.

that's the message. I'm in two minds. either it was sent by someone who knows me, hence the picture of the saucy young wench, not visible above, used to lure me into the dark side, young skywalker, or they have no idea about me whatsoever, which would explain why they think I might be interested in philosophy. That wasn't the hug - that was just me. That's the trouble with hitting this middle age thing. Heck, I have so many flushes, USDA and the Met Office have both issued me with my own climate zone rating. Mad

I could't determine the IP address as I'd already deleted the message, so instead I visited their Forum, reported an abuse, and left a strong message that they stop spamming our forum members. It is not allowed under the forumotion rules and I've told them that, if they continue, their forum could be taken down by Forumotion.

Hear hear Jim. I've been fighting a losing battle against that one (amongst others) in school for the past three years. The problem is not so much the kids - they're actually for the most part quite amenable to accepting they are wrong and changing it accordingly. No, the real problem is that some of the teachers use the construction themselves and get mad when the kids then tell 'em it's not correct.

Oh God, I'm such a pedant, or else I'm gettin' old. Or both. (minor sentence - quite acceptable). ThumbsUp

btw, if anyone out there is as sad as I am and wants to know why the construction Jim highlighted is incorrect.... I'm on the case.

And, it's not just at school, either. I work for our local newspaper, working with sub editors who ought to know about these things. Even they let "me and ....." slip through. Also, the one I really hate, " . . . . and I". Only the Queen uses that and she's grammatically wrong!!! (from Will's wife, Bev)
