I was reading some old Japanese sources, and apparently this is how poor commoners grew azalea back in the 1600s. Obtaining an azalea plant was possible, but they couldn't afford pots! However, seasshells like oyster or clam were available.

Interesting. However, oyster shell is basic and azaleas like a more acidic soil so that would have to be taken into account. I really like the composition.
