BERBERIS thunbergii (BONANZA GOLD) Barberry
I found a nice yellow leaved Barberry: BERBERIS thunbergii (BONANZA GOLD). It was just planted into a pot on 4-10-2017. The Denver Botanic Gardens allowed to me keep in their greenhouse for a week. I just picked it back up on 4/19/17 and the tree has sprouted new branches all over and is also flowering. I have more information on this tree HERE. I am planning on adding some yellow moss to the soil.

Very good find! The movements of the trunks is very elegant.

Thank you for the nice compliment. I love Barberries. I am not sure exactly how many I have? They range from around 6 inches up to 6 feet tall. The 6 foot tall one was just found about 3 weeks ago at a nursery. I about fell over when I saw it. It was probably at least 10 feet tall before I cut off the stop and larger side branches at the nursery to get into the car. I am trying to decide what to do with it?

Here is a new photo of tree completely leafed out. i did move a couple of branches around. Can you spot them? I have added a yellow Irish moss to the tree. Normally I do not like Irish moss and remove it when I see it on a tree. I am hoping it will form a nice tight covering, so far not so good. More photo's are on my website HERE.

I am not real happy with my moss right now, a mowing is in the works, but may not be enough!! The tree is growing really well with it.

It is Irish moss, what are you implying about it?

Re: BERBERIS thunbergii (BONANZA GOLD) Barberry
oh... sorry but i wasnt "implying" anything as that is too soft of a word...
maybe warning is better
that stuff doesnt just lay on top of the soil like real "moss"...
it roots deeply, spreads wildly and competes with your tree for everything

Yes, Kevin spoke the right words:
"it roots deeply," and will choke the roots of your tree.
