Re: Bonsai with animals
I used to use mouse traps in some of my trees to keep my cat from using them as a toilet after a few snaps she does not come within 100 feet of my trees

Thanks Seth,
Double wammy I gues coz it keeps the mice out as well
I'm still abit puzzeled why cats are only attracted to certain trees. Smell, bark texture? Then again, they sharpen their claws on the garden posts which are treated pine
Cheers

A walk in the woods with the cat and your favorite walking stick will quitely take care of your problem.

Very nice Ceiba, Chaddad! I like the Bombacaceae very much, and ceibas have spectacular trunks, but in spite of being easy to grow, they are a pain to train - cuts do not heal very well unless they are rather small, the branches are still and prone to break, only maleable when quite young, the plants do no not grow a twig structure - branches are always thick and stiff. Besides, the palmate leaves are large and nearly impossible to reduce much in size! Nebari is also a problem to develop, as the plants have a tendency to grow thick tuberous roots. But the trunks are exquisite, and I do grow ceibas because of the trunks, some I am even trying to convert into bonsai.
Below are some images of Ceiba rubriflora, a species described as recently as 2008, which I discovered in 2004 growing on limestone rock outcrops in western Bahia state, Brazil:
This is the only red flowered species of the genus in Brazil, and it is a small tree. I am growing it from seed and plan to use it as a bonsai subject in the future.

Dear Marlon,
Fantastic the Ceiba rubriflora, show us more photos.
I show you a Pseudobombax sp, other species from north of Espirito Santo state of Brazil. With flower production and my cats.

Re: Bonsai with animals
Sankofa,
You show great restraint with the monkey. I'm not sure I would have reached for a camera. I would be tempted to deliver a 'lead injection' if it did that to one of my trees. Lovely tree by the way, even with the broken jin. Surely a cat that size could keep the apes at bay :-) Thanks for sharing.
Regards
Ian
