[2015-] Cork Bark Chinese Elm I
Here is a new ulmus parvifolia 'corticosa' I just got my hands on yesterday (Cork Bark Chinese Elm) & I am opening this thread to document it (hopefully)
I am hoping for any input / advise etc... to make this into a nice shohin in a couple of years
The seedling as I got it
This morning repot
I did a root selection, removed the big roots and dead ones etc...
To try to spread the nebari I first fixed it to a bottle cap
I then decided it was easier/better to use the top of a pot inverted So I fixed the pot top to the colander
and added the tree and fixed both
It is in 100% perlite and the colender is very big compared to the tree so I guess it will give it enough room to grow for a couple of years
Plans for this year is to let it grow without any more cutting just feeding it and let it grow wild

Hi Akhater
I look forward to follow your work with the tree...also the use of perlite, it is not something I am sed to use.
Kind regards Yvonne

Maybe bend it up a bit once it gets going. Feed heavily. And look out! These grow like monsters.

Just to keep the "journal" up to date
2 days after the repot (on the 21st) it started to wither, maybe too much stress (travel, repotting when it had already leafs etc..)
I created some kind of a mini-greenhouse to keep humidity high and today (2 days later) it looks already better. Think I will keep it for about 2 weeks

Good luck. I think, however, it may take a bit more than 2 years to get it into something that will turn into a decent shohin size tree.

Thanks Jim ,
always appreciate your, and others, input
I'm not in a hurry I've been in and out of the hobby so many times. This time I am counting on taking it slowly
Cheers

Hi Akhater
I hope your tree survive, and make a good bonsai in the future...as soon as it is doing well again, and have started to grow, can you start fertilizing it...do this all summer, and let it grow as it pleases...
Kind regards Yvonne

It is doing much better now, it is out again and will add sun exposure gradually over the next few days...
And I think I will also start fertilization like Yvonne suggested

Just a quick update, the tree is healthy but not pushing new growth it is just "sitting here".
Maybe it just needs time to pickup, no rush will wait more it doesn't look weak or anything just slow
