Lavender - why not?
Hi
about 20 years i had a lavender in a pot in my garden. Every year the same as we do with our bonsai. Let him grow and cut back.
Never had the idea to make a bonsai of a lavender, because i never saw a really good one.
Last year in spring a voice told me to try it.
Here the pics of a beginning love :-)
Not so bad.
One hour later he was in a bonsaipot :-)
I think the lavender and iwill have much fun together the next years.
Last year the tree could grow free. But in spring we start to devolepe him.
I think it ca be an interesting project.

Re: Lavender - why not?
Every year my patient wife asks me to winter her herbs with my tropical bonsai. Every year the herbs die.
That is really a great trunk! Well done.

Hi Herbert
Great little tree.
Only problem with lavender is that they have a short lifespan in my experience.
Who knows maybe you can keep it going. Well worth it.

@ Brett Simon
A Lavender has a lifespan about 10 years in the garden. But if you cut back the Lavender every year, so the lifespan is much longer.
My Lavender is now about 20 years and he is still strong growing.

Re: Lavender - why not?
The main reason to a Lavander live longer is cut hard in spring for strong vigour.

Hi Rui, thanks for the link. I cut the Lavender hard after blooming.

Very nice portrait Herb
I've never seen a Lavender bonsai before and this one is really great. Even if it doesn't survive as long as other species, what you have achieved is very impressive, hats off man

Beautiful.
I've tried lavender a couple of times and it didn't like root pruning much. Eventually they both died. I've got to try again.

Hi
the Lavender was growing well last year.
Now it was time to buy a nice pot and to plant the tree in a new position. I think the colour and the style of the pot are perfect for the Lavender.
The new Position gives him a good balance. The main work this year will be to refine the new branches.
