What happened to the advanced techniques forum? Obviously it has been replaced with what?

Obviously.  However I have been going by the new system for the last five days and I have a critique.  How many posts does it take for a subject to be bumped into the best of category?  AKA top threads.  Is this a numerical point or just someone's point of view?  Just my opinion and, we all know what that's worth, but I think if changes were going to be made it would have been better to add a recent response thread, not a most popular thread, especially when that parameter does not seem to be defined by anything other than a moderator's opinion. I guess someone has to do it.

Vance, a valid criticism we received regarding the old method of putting things into Top Threads was that if we put them there too early, they tended to get overlooked and/or treated as if they were "finished."  We were effectively strangling potential further discussion.   There is no set timeframe for when stuff will get moved - we've left it at the more open "run its natural course" approach.

And yes, to an extent it will be moderators' choice but if members feel they think a particular thread is worth adding to Top Threads, then of course we would look at it closely.

Thank you. I still think you ought to have a category of most recent responses or new threads.

My homepage on the IBC site has a list titled "Latest Topics" which seems to be the 9 treads with the most recent activity - either a new post or a response. That is how I saw this one.

That should show on everyone's Home page, Marty. It isn't a category as such - just a synopsis of the most recent activity/responses across all the forums. Is that what you had in mind, Vance?

As the site is laid out currently there are two annoying problems. Unless you go fishing in all aspects of the forum you cannot tell when something has been updated unless you are following the subject and get updates sent to you in an email. You can not tell when a new subject has been posted without going through the same ritual.

Vance,

Click on the 'Forum' tab just underneath the main title banner.

On the left of your screen, just under the text titled "Welcome New Visitors", you'll see a link "View posts since last visit".

Click that. Does that help?

You beat me to it, Tom.  Very Happy

Vance, it is this link here:

Advanced techniques? View_p10

The feature Marty mentioned is also helpful but restricts it to a limited number of entries.

Does that help?

Yes it does. Iguess if it does not bite me on the butt I don't seem to find it. Sorry to waste your time.

Thanks Fiona.

Sometimes too much democracy is not good.
...from time to time we have some issues with some of the mods, but in general you are doing good things for the forum.

Is this a mathematical factor or just someone's view point?  Just my viewpoint and, we all know what that's value, but I think if changes were going to be created it would have been better to add a latest reaction line, not a most well-known line, especially when that parameter does not seem to be described by anything other than a moderator's viewpoint.
