Willow Leaf Ficus Progress...
Hey All,
I posted this tree when I first got it in 2011. So I thought I would show a bit of it's progression to date.
2011
Defoliated
Spring 2012
Fall 2012
Winter 2013
It still has a few too many branches and needs to thicken up some. I will trim in back hard in late spring and start to look for a pot for the late summer or following spring. Any suggestions or pot ideas?

Your tree is coming along nicely.
If possible it would be an good idea to bend down the lowest right branch ( in the last picture), a little more downward so it looks like the rest of the branches. (I think they call this the integrity of the design.)
Pots I choose on a feeling - to me it would be a very dark blue rectangular glazed pot with feet and a very fine rim.

I like the progress so far. I would let the leader grow without cutting it back so that there is better taper from the middle to the top.

You have the makings of a very nice small willow ficus. Have you considered removing everything above the second branch on the right. Adjusting this branch slightly upwards as the new crown, along with shortening the remaining lower branches will yield a very compact tree . Regards Hank

Hey All,
Thanks for the feedback. I do intend to let the top grow out this season to improve the transition from the base. Hank I had though about using that branch as the apex but will keep it as is for now so I can get the upper section to gain some size. This tree is a slow grower for me and it has taken me a while to learn the best ways to get what I want from it. It is finally starting to get somewhere.
