Streblus asper (Clump style).... and other forest style material....
Good day, IBC friends, despite the onslaught of the monsoon rains brought by Typhoon "Maring" here in the Philippines, I would like to show you my most recently acquired bonsai (Streblus asper) Clump style, I got this one from my hunter for $25 and I was happy with it to be part of my latest collection....
Clump Style...100cm in height and 20cm in length/width(?)...hunted from the wild 6months ago....
(Forest style) I was amazed to see that all the trunks were inter-connected, a material from the wild hunted 3 weeks ago, about 25 cm in height, and 42 cm long....hope it would thrive, but from the looks of it, it would...
this one is 10cm in height and 32 cm length (Raft or forest and also this one have interconnected trunks)....cool...
Good day friends,
Jed Franco

Hi Todd,
Yep, at times whenever I'm busy with my work and have no time to hunt materials, I would ask someone to get what
I want...I live in an urban area and have to travel far to reach hunting grounds for bonsai, so what I do is make a request for a style I like and my hunter will just call me up when it's available... ...

Hi Jed
But then you miss out on all the fun of getting your hands dirty!
I really like the solid feel of the 1st clump, but something doesn't look right at the tops......most likely will be better when the canopies fill in.
Please post updates as this develops
Thanks
Gerhard

@GerhardGerber,
I have experienced it already, and sometimes with some injuries... .and besides, I'll be the one to take good care of it, style it and probably to make it more appealing...caring for this plants will have my hands and even around those surrounding it becomes dirty.. ..., It's only six months from the time of hunting, my friend, well, I'm happy that this had gone far and close to a finished bonsai....I'll try my best to post this one from time to time to update IBC on this one..Thanks for the comments....

Hi Jed,
This material is a very complicated one. Hehehe. I have 6 of these before but only 3 was able to make it these days. They are sensitive after each repotting showing dormancy and yellowing of leaves.

Hi, Darwin,
Many thanks for the comments.... I have three of them now...so base on your statistics only 50% will thrive, sana naman hindi, hehehe... and I will have a 1 and a half forest if that becomes true.... ....I'll care for this one my friend and update you on the progress, it may as well help me if you post the ones that have lived and we'll see how it is after it had thrived and styled...

Don't disturb the roots when re-potting. If you find the root ball too huge for your ideal design do the root mass reduction in longer period of time or every time you repot.

Hi Jed.
The first one looks very good. but just a little observation- The two huge trees are competing for dominance. I am not so sure, but maybe a change of angle would change the effect a bit.

@Darwin...
Thanks bro for posting your bonsai...it was nice and it will more look beautiful once it will fill up the open spaces...
@ Preng Jun,
Thanks pre for your comments, yeah you're right I will probably follow your advise...but I have a problem now, the second branch on the left died back, so I will have to wait for several more months for it to recover and hopefully it would give up some branches there.... ...

I find it fascinating to see all the species I have never heard of and probably never will work with, oh to live in the tropics............ . Thanks for sharing
The tray with the smaller trunks, screams ShoHin forest to me, or will you be growing it big also?
