One of our club members is taking courses in botanical illustration at the New York Botanical Garden (Bronx). She is planning to give a workshop on drawing bonsai next spring.

I only started to draw/sketch (bonsai) trees earlier this year.

Whilst peaceful and absorbing in it's own right, I have also found that drawing a tree - for me, especially transcribing a photograph of an exhibited high quality tree into a pencil drawing/sketch - has also helped me to develop more of an understanding about structure and the elements that make up a great tree, much more so than just "looking" at it.

However, I still rely on my camera for accurate records of my trees, it is less tempted to use artistic license!
