Re: which pot do you think???
I like the first one, although the fourth is OK as well. The other 2 are to wide for the tree, but would be very nice for a couple of my maples.

I think #1 is the best of the lot for this plant because it is the best size and the right amount of contrast (as opposed to #4). Pots 2 and 3 are extremely nice, and I would like to have either, but they are too large for this plant. I think your tree would also look nice in a dark drum pot, although this is almost becoming cliche' for larches.

I also vote for the first one. Nice pots to choose from they aren't easy to come by now.

Re: which pot do you think???
Its hard to judge the scale but thinking about the tree in 5 years the 1st and last might be too narrow.....and the shallower two might be more appropraite? Also another question about pot choice might be whether you want to show it in the summer or winter?

i would go shallower than any of these if we are talking about a final pot...maybe shallow to the point where i would start looking around for a suitable slab...i think that the first branch being low and sweeping, something long and shallow would look best...if it werent for the first branch, i would vote for #1...nice little tree either way though.

just mike this past fall before the tree went dormant the first 2 inches of the first branch had some funky weakness i dont think that section will come out of dormancy

that's too bad...i like that long sweeping first branch...thats part of fun though i suppose...adapting with the tree as it changes...i vote pot #1 then if that branch has to be shortened at all or ends up being removed...

if it does come back it won't take too long to develop it again

Re: which pot do you think???
It would go against "my graine" to put a larch in anything besides a nick lenz pot, no disrespect to the other great potters.

Re: which pot do you think???
all joking aside, that is actually a good point and is probably what makes me lean towards the shallower longer pots when it comes to larches...some of my favorite bonsai are larches ala Nick Lenz, specifically the ones that are in incredibly shallow pots or slabs...in my opinion, his pot selection in combination with placement and angle ends up giving extraordinary movement...so, yeah, i am admittedly biased...but in a good way though,

Re: which pot do you think???
at a workshop with nick this past october we worked on a larch as usual be the pot he told me to put it in was an interesting choice and one of the most shallow pots of his i've seed besides a slab

Re: which pot do you think???
to me...and this is only my opinion, so feel free to ignore me...but, the shallow pots give a kinda "nike swoosh" type movement to the tree...especially if it is angled just a tad...the pot really does just become "part" of the tree and for me it is very pleasing to the eye and the whole composition just flows nicely...now, i dont know Nick Lenz, or what he is intending to do or if he favors shallow pots or any of that...but i do know that it is re-occuring in his larches to see these very shallow elongated pots, and everything just seems to fit so well...the deeper pots to me look too stout for many larches and break up the flow...like they just have too much visual weight and end up becoming somewhat distracting...just my opinion...

hello, i think it's too early to buy a final and expensive pot for your young tree, , big container will still better to create ramifications, during 5 or 6 years.
