Black plum design option
Hi IBC,
This is a fruit bearing tree- black plum.
Which angle of planting would look better?
Option 1
A literati with black fruits, presented bare leaf
Option 2
without the upper branch
Option 3
A widswept design?
Option 4
The other side without the visible shari.
Option 5
A cascade with dangling/hanging fruits would also look good
"In designing a bonsai material, if possible turn as many angles as possible the subject tree, take photo make a sketch..."- quoted from a bonsai master's mouth
Pick your preference please. I'll keep this thread updated until it bears fruit...hopefully.hehehe
regards,
jun

or, what about layering above the hollowed part for a smaller tree? I don't see a full cascade with all of that trunk practical. just some thoughts.

Re: Black plum design option
I like half way between one and two, reduce the top branch, emphasize the second branch more. But this is acceptable in all the styles you proposed. I would consider a slant to semi-cascade, but on deciduous, to my temperate zone mid-west USA eye, windswept seldom if ever looks convincing on a deciduous tree. Especially if you display it with fruit or flowers. A slanting style, like the tree was reaching for light out over a lake or canyon, does work well with deciduous, at least to my eye.
Your trees are always wonderful Jun, I am sure no matter what style you put this into, it will become a very nice tree.

Jun,
this one I leave up to you. The quality of the collected tree is stunning.
You will only make it better.

hi Jun,
the angle it is planted at the moment is good too, and without the upper branch for me, hollow trunk visible too. Sometimes I think we all get a bit carried away propping pots at all sorts of angles just for the sake of it when at times the tree is at a perfectly good angle already.
it will be great with a fruit crop - nice seasonal tree
best regards Marcus

Lovely tree - I prefer the literati but without the top branch. With your little block it looks like the tree is doing a yoga pose -very nice

Hi Jun!
Position 3 but with out the top branch would be very dynamic in my opinion.
Have a nice weekend!
cheers,
