Is this Ulmus p. 'Cork Bark'?
Following Yvonne's thread on the cuttings she's been growing for 5 years, I wanted to show a tree from a cutting that a friend gave me as "Zelkova 'Nire'".
I told him it was an elm, the name "Zelkova" having been used at the time when the Dutch elm disease was endangering all the elms in Europe to bypass import regulations.
When it was given to me two years ago, the trunk size was in-between the size of the pencil on the left and the first branch on the right. It already had this cork-like appearance at the base of the trunk :

Hi Alain
If your tree form wings on the thinner branches, is it a corkbark....Othervise could it be a tree like mine...looks so
Kind regards Yvonne

Dam it !...
At least, I won't have to tie it to the pot so he doesn't fly away
And I hope one day he'll be as promising as yours

there are several different varieties of Chinese elm that have cork bark. 'Yatsubusa', 'Seiju', 'Corticosa', and 'Hokkaido' are the 4 that I am familiar with.
I'm not entirely convinced yours is really a cork bark. While is does have nice bark, it's not as thickly corky as those 4 cultivars. That may be because it needs to gain some size. But I have seen regular, non-cork bark Chinese elms with bark like yours.
