Let me know if this is possible. I have access to some really thick wisteria vines and only a few sections have nice curves. Is it possible to airlayer a section then cut that section out without any leaves and have it backbud?

From what I've read, once your wisteria have roots, you basically cannot kill it. LOL.

Hi Gideon

I never tried it, but one of my friends has airlayered wisteria 3 times.
He made this application at mid-summer, and waited till autumn, then cut and repotted it after the plant has dropped its leaves.

yes it is very possible. i have done it about 3 times already and worrking on the forth in the same year, ive airlayered airlayers you can say. i boguth a tree that had no branches that was about 4 ft tall. i started the first airlayer as soon as i seen just a small adventerous bud forming below the area i wanted to air layer and off i went from there and i havent had any die and was 100% SUCCESSFUL with all airlayers on this 1 tree.

It si possible, even with a very large trunk ( from 4 to 8 inches ) .
An other solution, is to tress 8 or 10 young vine wisterya with the same colour together , remove a trunk of the braid when you want a branch, you create conicity , so on until the head of the tree , trunks will be welded together in 5 years .
