More collecting

Hi all, just posting a few more pictures of this year’s collecting.

The trees in order are:
Beech
Beech
Beech
Douglas fir
Fuchsia
Hawthorn
Maple
Yew
The small ones are:
English Oak
Ash
Beech

there will be sheep and cattle running all over Somerset the amount of gaps in the hedges !

only kidding, lots to play with there - . (Though looking back now the best thing I did for the trees I kept was putting about 50 back in woods and hedges so I had time to dedicate to a few trees properly. (15 good acers were hidden in gloucestershire in a forest of wellingtonias, overlooking a lovely bend in the River Wye )).

have fun with them though - but concentrate on the better beech - its the only one you need

Thanks Marcus, Only a few small holes left behind.
Not to worry though only the best will be kept. For now I will just keep them healthy and fed. Maybe go for sale or trade in a few years but untill then I will enjoy taking the through the initial stages. I think the first of these could be something quite special.

Very nice looking I bet those were fun getting out.

Collecting trees is one of my favourite hobbies and at this time of year I go at it like a mad man. Soon I will go back to search for and getting permission to dig for next year.

So generally do you just look on friends properties? How would you even approach that question? "Hey do you mind if I dig up your trees for my collection?" Just curious

Generally it's pretty easy to get permission. Just yesterday I noticed the old lady opposite my house having some large shrubs cut down in her garden and although I miss the opportunity to get them I did ask if they were thinking about removing some very large garden junipers she had and was told it is OK to have them next spring. I also live and have my workshop and nursery right out in the country and know a lot of the farmers and landowners who tend to just think Im a bit mad but are happy for me to dig on their land.

Thats awesome :)lol yeah my wife thinks im a bit Mad.....but seems to accept the hobby. It surely can consume you if you let it.... Id love to find some where to hike and collect

Thanks Dario, I will be cutting it back next year. When cutting Beech back hard, you must leave at least one bud to keep the branch alive.
