Boxwood bark

When the rough bark peals off the trunk of a boxwood like when you are cleaning to find roots ect.. Will the bark grow back to the rough texture ??? iF there is a way to make this happen please tell me how..this may be crazy but i would like to do this on my tree.. thank you take care john

Ummm. What did you do, John? I'm not at all sure how you rub off the roughness on an adult boxwood unless you were scouring it with a Chore Boy.

I'd guess, though, that given enough time the roughness would reappear.

Maybe there are different boxwood? The bark on mine is super soft and peels off even using a soft toothbrush. I have the same problem as John since the upper bark (darker and coarse) does not match the bottom part that was under the ground (beige and smooth). I am afraid that if I clean the upper part, it will loose it's "character"...but if I don't, they won't match!

JIM ,,THAT WAS GOOD!!! No scouring pads,, I clean it with a toothbrush,,dawn soap .. it just didn,t have rough bark under the soil and some of the bark is just peeling off.... my luck!! thank you john

You'll have to hope. The epithelial cells under the soil were most likely creating root tissue (bark). You have to hope that now they are exposed they somehow start creating stem tissue.

As posted on another thread...see the bark texture below the first branch. The upper ones are different, a bit courser and darker (due to dirt) but not too course... almost like paper that peels off. Both bark (upper and lower) are soft.
