Neea buxifolia from Puerto Rico

Post  Budi Sulistyo on Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:32 am

Hi all,

In February 2004 I was invited to Puerto Rico. I was very lucky getting a native Puerto Rican's tree, Neea buxifolia, given by a new friend Jose Luis Rodriguez. Here is the shape of the tree.

I made an initial cut. Here is the shape.

I made an other cut, and by the mid of 2005, here is the picture of the tree.

By the end of 2007 I made an other picture of the tree. It looked almost finished already. Here it is.

Recently I took the picture of the bonsai. I was happy as the tree grows very well in my country. It bears many fruits.

Last week Jose Luis got married wit a beautiful lady Camille Casanova. Congratulations!! Jose and Camile. Now you are a twin trunk like the Neea buxifolia.

Budi,

Like always, you manage to surprise me!!! Well, I guess years of friendship have taught me that you are a Master of bonsai and incredible when it comes to making one feel happy, comfortable and just plain amused!!!Good Job!!!! affraid

Well. I am a very lucky guy and there are no words that can describe my feelings cheers

My humble gift has developed incredibly. Because Indonesia has high humidity, Neea grow exhuberantly and lush. Depending on the climate, even in Puerto Rico, they do not grow that well. Like pemphis, environmental humidity plays an important role in the overall health of the plant.

Well don Budi, well done! cheers cheers

Your friend,

Jose Luis

Ed,

I am glad to hear from you. Well. Camille likes bonsai, knows a lot about it, participates in bonsai related activities, but does not do bonsai.

Every now and then, when I am working on my trees, she will give me an idea that is quite great. She is particularly fond of Satsuki azaleas and has one beautiful specimen.

Warm regards,

Jose Luis

I was very impressed when I saw this tree in Kemang, the leaves are very green and decorated with red fruit in bloom.
Can I get a seed from you Mr Budi ? Very Happy

Hi Priya,

Growing from cuttings is much quicker. I will make some cuttings that can be distributed later on.

Budi,

Anything you learned (special to Neea) while training this you can share?

I have a few Neea I just received a few months back and would love to know more about them. Since mine have major trunk chop, I think it will lend better having uro rather than jin/shari due to its soft wood. Is my assumption correct?

Thank you.
