Just got a bonsai as a gift, I don't know the type, and do not know how to care for it or shape it properly, and was looking for some help! Anything would be appreciated!

Where in Florida? Ficus microcarpa, needs as much outside light and air as possible BUT will be damaged by temperatures below freezing. Mine are in the greenhouse from November to March, but I have a bunch and moving in and out would not be practical, but with one tree you can do that, a table in the backyard or an apartment balcony most of the time. In overnight when lows below 40 are predicted. You will want to prune and wire it when the weather warms up, unless you are in South Florida, in which case you can do it now. There are a lot of clubs in Florida and attending a meeting will get you lots of help.
