A Visit to Peter Thali's amazing Garden

Post  Tony on Mon Aug 29, 2011 6:37 pm

IBC Member Peter Thali has one of the best personally collected bonsai gardens in Europe. Almost all the trees are now Mature Bonsai, few pieces of raw material. Pines, Junipers and Spruce make up the majority of the bonsai. ALL collected locally. I was honoured to Visit Peter's Garden yesterday whilst I was at the Bonsai Autumn event in Switzerland.

In a desperate attempt to get my hands on a wonderful Mugo Pine, I had Peter's friend make a photo...

Thanks for taking us along with you, appreciated.

Tho I appreciate trees that are carefully nurtured from nursery stock, nothing seems to beat mother nature
for providing some great material.

I see in the second photo, you've been doing a little "collecting" yourself......

Now tickleing's teriffic, and tickleing is fun and i bet when you get that tree home, you'll be tickled with everything said and done. Smile

Tony,

what a surprise for me to see my garden in the IBC Forum. Thanks for the nice video – I didn’t realize when you took this pictures.
I am pleased and It is a great honour to me, you and Budi Sulistyo have been here in my garden to see my trees. Sorry, that so many trees are not in a good shape now, because I took off all the wires and let them grow for a while. Thanks a lot for your good advices!

Here some more pictures of your visit in my garden.

Budi Sulistyo was here! Budi loves the same trees like Tony.

Budi is pleased with this special raw material: a mugo pine

Before Budi went back to Jakarta, he wanted to see where mugo pines are growing. That is why I took him up to the mountains – an impressive scenery, but a little bit windy and cold for a man born in a tropical country.

Mugo area, but closed for yamadori hunters! National park!

Dear all,

To day I arrived home from a long journey to Bonsai Autumn and Switzerland. It was tiring and yet very exciting by doing some new trees compared to my tropical bonsai, meeting some wonderful people, visiting a very nice garden, observing how the mugo pines grow in nature and wonderful scenery of Switzerland.
Thanks a lot Peter for all you have done to me. And thanks Tony for the excellent quick report on the event.
