Re: Redwood bonsai
The second one looks quite good, how does the plant tolerate deep pruning?

The Redwood (Sequoia) will tolerate any amount of pruning and will break new growth from anywhere there is live tissue. They also root easily. The tall bonsai pictured first was given me as a cutting about 20 years ago. I soaked it in a 5 gallon bucket with water kept at about the 6 inch level for a month. Rooting hormone was kept in the water at recommended levels. After a month I planted it in a training pot. It thrived.

Oops, I thought these ones are Metasequoias, not Sequoias. I have a one Metasequoia in my backyard and I plane to cut it drastically back. It is not bad material, therefore I have to be a bit carefull.
