The tree isn't there yet, but the flower is lovely. Can someone please tell me the variety?

With thanks.

I think it is 'Miyama Mangatsu'.

Some people call it a satsuki, others a kurume and a third theory is that it is a cross between a satsuki hybrid and a kurume hybrid. It's an cold cultivar so it's likely lost information.

Glaucus, why not 'Seidai'?

I think it is 'Miyama Mangetsu' because of the proportions of the stamen to the petals. This makes me believe the flower is very small. It reminds me of species R. kiusianum. 'Miyama Mangetsu' is decribed as 'very small' where 'small' means below 5 cm/2 inches. So I think these are close to 3.5 cm / 1.35 inches.

'Seidai' has flowers in the 7 to 10 cm range.
Picture:

You can see the difference in stamen to petal ratio.

I have to go now. But maybe you can both measure the flower size and take a good closeup of the leaves.

I have a book by Robert Callaham, who used information from Watanabe. This book describes Miyama Mangetsu (page 175) as white with tiny green throats, light purple edged with white, purplish red jewel-patterns; lobes round, keeled, broadly overlapping, slightly wavy and laterally cupped margins contribute to appearance of being painted; trumpet-shaped, namiuchi 1-1.5 inch, midseason to late.

I am pretty sure it's 'Miyami Mangetsu'. R. kiusianum aka 'Miyami Kirishima' have round leaves. These are pointy. But they still somehow look like R. kiusianum leaves. 'Miyama Mangetsu' also has these pointy leaves. Plus flower size matches up.
