I have had this one a few years. Thought it looked elegant now.

Shohin Maple P1070610

It is 5" / 12.5 cm high including the pot.

Elegant, yes! But is there some way we could get a hint of the shape of the trunk?

Jim,
The trunk is not exciting.

This one started life as a CHEAP nursery tree.

Hello Peter. Your choice to go with a semi cascade needs the wired branch removed completely. There is a perfectly good apex at the top curve for future development. Wiring a lower branch up and back to the left is not a suitable design option in my opinion as it goes against the flow of the movement.

Ah, I see that. I do like the tree overall, though. Will may be right about that branch. Maybe someone can do a decent virtual without it there, so you can "try it out" before you cut.

I would like to point out that the picture without leaves was 4 years ago and the tree has been trimmed almost to John's image.
Next year should see the removal of the bent branch.
What is the maximun width for a "Mame" ? Cool

Hello Peter. Why wait till next year before removing the wired branch?

It would have been interesting to consider bringing that wired branch down to make it your number one branch, removing the current right hand number one with long nodes and poor ramification, and then keeping the apex and the number two branch on the left as you had it. I just ran into a very similar problem on an old juniper of mine. Wish I could think of something for that trunk.
