The fire is a field elm, planted behind the old wood that has been drilled. The young elm was inserted through the hole and is now the flame.

The tree is very healthy. However a "dragons flame" brunch become too massive. I like the look on picture here https://i.servimg.com/u/f21/16/21/05/02/dsc_1426.jpg maybe little thinning would improve. That's just my taste.

i really really really dig the marriage of the old wood and the young elm...
this past spring i threaded some corkscrew willow whips through a cactus bone and am curious what it will do as the trunks expand and fill the interior... inspired by this post, i am taking time out of my bonsai work day to post this thread on it:
