Is spring somewhere over the horizon?

Can I hope winter (at least the very cold part of winter) is over? The next 10 days are forecast to be in the upper 50s and low 60s (F), and sunny. Many of my plants are hoping, too, and have started their buds a swelling. By then our regional statistical probability for real cold weather is quite low.

Nights will be coldish (upper 20s F), but I've moved all deciduous trees back out onto the tables (except for 3-4 tender plants) -- a move that is usually guaranteed to have me hurrying some of them back into protection for a day or two sometime in the near future; but hope springs eternal.

Oddly, there still is some unmelted snow in the shady spots near the house on the north side and the back pasture. That should vanish today.

Hope springs eternal...........here in Eastern Pa I still have snow cover on just about everything. Tonights forecasted low is 16F. We have had a brutal winter here. We had a low of 4F just a few days ago and I'm in an semi-urban location. Most winters it is rare for us to go below 10F all winter long but I estimate we have had at least 20-30 nights in single digits. We are supposed to have a few 50-60F days later this week--but I know we are not done with the snow yet. We usually get one good honker in March. I'm about 1 month from anything going out on the benches!!!!

Since I wrote the first one, we've had temps in the 70s (F). Today it will be cloudy and in the low 60s. It got down just under freezing last night, so I left everything out. I've repotted half a dozen trees. No more freezes in sight for the next 10 days according to Those Who Know (or claim to).

I had some slight hope for spring too. It was sunny, the snow was melting outside.
Now its been snowing like crazy for 2 days, and much more to come..

I am thinking about removing `spring´ from Wikipedia. It doesn't seem to be there any more...

I looked into next week on the NOAA web site for my area, nothing below 50. So, I brought a few tropicals out of the greenhouse. But, not so many or so big that it will be hard to put them back.

My Quince seems to think spring is here along with a lot of plums and cherries we have planted here around town. It just opened it's first flower last night and the rest will probably push out in the next few days. If I had an eye for pictures half as good as Morten, I'd post a couple pics but my $200 camera serves better as a paperweight.

We're going to have some warm weather here as well this week. My buddy Erik Wigert posted this on his Facebook page. I know it's for SW FL but I'm hoping for that forecast to hold true for eastern US.

All my Larches have nice golden buds, Maples and Elms are swelling and Privets have already opened.

I've re-potted a couple of trees this week and put them back under shelter. This is the earliest in the year I've ever re-potted. After the freezing spell we had in December and January, I thought that re-potting would be a bit later than this for me.

Not here, in the south of Sweden! We are having the coldest, longest winter that anyone (still living) can remember.

Thursday the weather forecast promisses temp. above O Celcius in Denmark.

Here in Western Kentucky, we are having weather similar to yours. The week before this last, we had 10 inches of snow over the course of two separate storms, and a low of -1ºF. Today we are predicted to have a high in the lower 70s, and no freezes for the next 10 days. I don't believe it! We are still bound to have some lows in the lower 20s/upper teens before Spring is really here! No buds swelling yet, but I am starting to think about repotting...

I attended a workshop in Atlanta Saturday with Ted Matson and the Atlanta Bonsai group. Everyone's trident maples really started greening up this last week. I have had 70+ degrees for a couple of days and nights only 50. My major repotting will start tomorrow except for bald cypress.

Forsythias are in full bloom in the Raleigh/Durham area.

Not here 4 hours west of you. I'll be there for a quick Doctor's visit at Duke on the 7th so maybe can enjoy them.

No. I'm still coughing. Nothing here but snow. Viola verecunda var. yakushimana, the world's smallest & most temperamental violet, had one pathetic flower. My forsythia, which will be glorious in April, is a light-year away on the other side of the yard. I won't even see my larch for several weeks. But I do enjoy my Nia rock planting.

Spring is close here in Western KY. The Red maples are beginning to flower! Thank goodness winters is almost over.
