Pot ideas for a yamadori spruce

Hi all,

This is a collected Colorado spruce I bought this year and recently worked with Ryan Neil. This is a first styling, so there's plenty of time to think about and find a pot. But the mind starts spinning anyway...

I'd love to hear suggestions and see any virtuals. I added one virtual of my own. Mostly just to see it in a pot; its not the style I imagine I'll choose.

Hello Mike. Great and powerful tree you have there. I think a straighter sided semi cascade type pot, would suit it better. I prefer a grey colour.

Thanks Will. That was the general direction I was thinking of. I went to Bryan Albright and John Pitt's site to look for photos to try out, but couldn't find anything, so I used the flared one for the virtual. Any suggestions for a potter?

This is one of Bryan albrights pots that was made for a Larch semi cascade. I'm sure he would build you one. This one may be too deep.

Tried closing and opening again and no difference. When I click on the box, there is no pic in the image hosting system either.

In the second virtual I made the tree more compact to get a better tree-pot combination.

Not a "problem" Alex, far from it.....
I'm so busy making commissions, no time to make stock,
I think the best way to get the perfect pot for any tree is to have one designed and made for it.

Mike, I think a semi cascade square is the way to go, maybe a touch of red/brown in the grey to enhance the foliage colour,
a very rugged tree, so not too much in the way of texture, just my opinion of course.

And I can attest to the excellent job John Pitt does of making a perfect matching pot. Perhaps something like the unique one John made for my pine would suit here? I'll see if I can dig out the photo.

Great tree Mike!!! I like Wills example the best! smooth finish, perfect colour and shape with simple clean lines that will make that tree sing.
