Hi Kevin and thanks for your interest,
This is a homemade remedy ....trying to force the feeder roots lower down into the soil in the grow pot................when examining the roots in the yellow pot (orchid pot ) they were encircling the base of the pot...... so instead of trimming and repotting (into same pot) I had a vision of it within a fairly shallow pot/dish/landscape tray, so to achieve that I came up with this temporary training pot (the base of the rock is about an inch below the surface of the soil).....this way I can remove about an inch of the pot each year for the next couple of years.....which gives me time to find a suitable pot/tray.
