Re: Some pots for the new gallery
I'll post some pics of them when done.....IF I can EVER get out to my kiln shed again!
D.
I'll look forward to seeing them. Ironic that even down south we are in the same boat this year. I still can not get my truck down the drive way and have piles of snow around my kiln shed from the snow we had in Mid December. I though when I left Northern Ohio I was moving to warmer times. I hear it may warm up at the end of the week but if not I am getting my Raku torch out and will finally take care of the ice skating rink that has been my driveway

You make the nuttiest pots Dale, and I say that with love and admiration. The things you do should not work, and yet they do. You have a rare and wonderful gift sir.

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Hi Dale. I really like these new pots. The first one looks to me like it is a very ancient pot which used to have a design stamped around it, possibly cherry blossom, but it has been worn/knocked off over the years.
My favourite is the 4th one. It reminds me of the back of my Grandad's leather chair where it had cracked due to the constant barrage of Brylcream from his hair, such as it was!

Brylcream! I remember that! They had it in the UK also huh?
Yes, that pot does have the look of an old car or motorcycle seat.

Dry riverbed pot with snakes......this pot makes me think of some ancient middle eastern artifact that was pulled out of the sands of Persia.
Very interesting

Dale, I don't know if you had the same tv advertising jingle for Brylcreme as us Brits (many years ago)? It went 'A little dab of Brylcreme on your hair, gives you the Brylcreme bou-ounce'. Well, when we were kids we had our own version; 'Put a little dab of Brylcreme on your stairs, and watch your granny bou-ounce'.
Not terribly pc, but hey, it was the seventies!

ED.
I'm posting this just for you.....
This is a two-layer 'grass' pot I made from scraps which I call the "Peanut Gallery".
When I finished piecing it together it reminded me of the old Howdy Doody show 'Peanut Gallery'....for those old enough to remember!

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Dear Dale
Bit slow with my reaction , sorry,
But i like the "Bark" pots on the previous page very much !
Are the pots with the Bark all around ?
The bark goes so well with the edgy corners and straight feet !
Lovely,
Kind regards
Morea

Thanks,
Yes Morea, the bark is on all four sides and blends pretty good at the corners.
I have some more on the way.

Dale Cochoy wrote:I am working on some good-sized commissioned pots for one of the IBC members for a display of 'avant garde' pots w/trees ( or maybe I should say trees w/ pots) . I've made pots in the past with this type foot and found some really liked them and others....well,.... I took to a few shows!
Two are drying and another just thrown.
I was kind of interested in the bonsai group opinion of this type foot which I'd not seen on any other artists bonsai pots until I read the thread here with the pots from famous Japanese potters Seigan Yamane and Deishi Shibuya who are popular tea ware potters ( which I found out after some 'googling') . I was suprised to see a similar foot cut on a tea bowl-like bonsai pot from Japan!
When I talked via email with the customer I immediately decided to use this foot on at least one piece for him to pick from. It wound up on two of the three I made of which one has three feet and one with four feet.
Anyway, how about some opinions on this type foot.
Dale
I've liked that foot style for years - and I seem to recognize these trees

I thought you might Rob.
I'm careful about mentioning folks names with trees I show in my pots because I never know just how they'll feel about it. But, I guess the cat is out of the bag
The first pot Rob bought at a show several years back. Then he said his wife "borrowed" it, so, I made him the secod pot as a gift to make up for it.

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
It is said that:
"Man cannot live by bread alone.....
He has to have a little peanut butter once in a while"
I guess that concept holds true for me as an artist.
I finally finished a project I've been wanting to do for 38 years now ( OK, so not quite THAT long! ).
I made these African Zebrawood grips for my Magna-ported 1972 Colt 'Python' .357 mag that my wife bought me in 1972 when I returned home from a 7 month Med. cruise in the Navy.
I used my bonsai carving tools and a Dremel to fit and shape to MY hand.
Sorry for the non-pottery art.
D.

A gen-yew-ine Colt Python .357 Magnum
Your wife must love you a whole lot, Dale. That is one seriously nice piece of kit you have there.
Jealous? Me? Nahhh. (Snaggin' frazzin' razzin' Dick Dastardly)

Re: Some pots for the new gallery
Thanks HD rider. It's Colt's best DA revolver, or was, they haven't made DA revolvers in a while. Only 1911 semi-auto style and Single Action 'Western' style now. Pres. Clinton cut them a deal I believe on the M-16/M-4 contract in return for stopping production of revolvers for retail, or, so I am told. Anyway, it's now worth 9-10 times what it cost!
