Sea slug grows own food.

One of my friends on showed me this article and I found it pretty interesting. Apparently some sea slugs have stolen the genes from the algae they eat and can now use chlorophyll to make their own food just like plants. Maybe someday there will be sea slug bonsai, though there is bound to be some ethical issues with chopping back and wiring.

An interesting discovery, but after finding out about the weird lifeforms that require the superheated water venting from mid-ocean ridge "black smokers", nothing new surprises me.

Speaking of unusual sea life: the recent cold wave in Florida encouraged a plethora of creatures to converge upon a power plant in Fort Lauderdale, where there is a steady stream of warm water emerging. Huge manatees mingle with little sunfish, clowns and tigers. There is so much competition for the warmth that the larger species keep bumping into one another.
