Everything looks very wet. Are you getting a lot of rain? I would scrape away the dead moss and let it come back.

The soil probably retains too much moisture. On some photos, I think I can see algae starting to develop (Marchantia polymorpha, liverwort I think). This happens when the soil is not draining well. The roots may then lack of oxygen.
I think you should remove the moss and algae, then water only when the surface of the soil is dry. Not as spectacular as with the moss, but probably healthier for the tree until the right time to modify the composition of the soil.
Any picture of the whole Ficus? I suppose it's still in the same mix as when you bought it?
