No but they are putting on a styling competition with a grand prize worth over $1000.00. But wait! That's not all! You can enter as many trees as you want.

Doesn't need to be finished. Just the person who takes raw material and changes it the most and best work toward making it into a bonsai. I'm going to let it rip.

You might want to inquire. By THAT definition anyone could take a newly dug tree, chop the H out of it, jam it into a pot, and submit it with no thought to whether it would ever live to bonsaihood. You can hide a lot of root butchery under the dirt and fatal top work in the back of the photo.
Not that I would be suspicious, or anything?

and that, jim, is what bothers me about so many design contests (like the joshua roth new talent contest)...
whack the bejeezus outta a tree, make it look super cool while hitting all the judging points and collect the prize...
i dont think they should be judged until spending a year with the artist to see if it lives.
