Chinese elm

As some of you know, Chinese elms are not my favorite tree, but I have the obligatory single tree (and, of course, some small cuttings).  I've been working this one several years now (since 2008 or 2009), and I'm not happy with it.  It stands about 13 inches from pot rim.

I solicit suggestions.

First pic is the proposed front, but second pic could also be a front (except for that root).

I am curious to see more of the branch that, in the first picture, comes off the trunk away and to the right. In these views it is almost hidden, whereas it could be a feature.

I prefer the image in the second picture and the roots of an elm are easily sorted out.

Actually, I like the first front better, that second branch on the right side could be shorter, maintaining the leafdeck in the apex. Cutting that branch in such a manner the leafdeck on the lower right is maintained would be, in my vision, the nicest.
However, that plateau needs a little shortening.

The second (from under) left branch should be a little longer, with a flat plateau created on it. So you would need to create some space between the apex and the discussed branch.
Also, the lowest branch on the left could use a slightly bigger and richer in foliage leafplateau.

Also, can I ask why you are not happy with your tree?

Jim, I have found elms to be quick growers. I've resorted to chopping Bach anything vaguely straight, so my first move would be to take the first branch on the right off (1st image) after it branches for the first time. That will get rid of one very straight and angular piece. On the rest, it is difficult as it is in leaf and hard to see what's what. What portion of its time does it spend bare of leaves?
