Boy, I didn't see that curved trunk coming based on the first few pictures. That will look nice as time goes on. I wired my branches down to grow more laterally, but it seems like clip n grow would work well for this species. What are your future plans for developing this tree?

Excellent work - the tree looks far better. The movement of the trunk, while somewhat dull before, is now very interesting.

Thanks for sharing.

It has filled our a bit since the cut back.
A few flower buds appearing. I should have a nice update in a few months with flowers & fruit.

If you get a new branch starting low on the trunk, I would suggest letting it grow as a sacrifice branch. Tree looks healthy.

What about air layering and trying to develop nebari farther up the trunk?

No! That is a lovely base now.

Instead, work on pulling the branches down a bit -- especially that lower one. Prune heavily to see if you gt new sprouts, but I think simply pulling the branches down will be sufficient.

Nice tree. But in the first shot there seems to be a reverse taper at the base of the trunk. Which is why,I think, an air layer was suggested. I cannot agree with Jim that it is a lovely base now:unless I am going blind, which is not beyond the bounds of possibility.

It's all a bit twisted in there. I suspect it was crammed into a smaller pot for a very long time before I purchased it last year.
