I planted this cutting in 2003. It seems to like it up here in North Carolina -- especially in the fall.

That's a winner Jim...

I've just opened the door to minis...after umpteensomethingyears with the standard sizes.

And following the "Great Southern Arizona Bonsai Disaster of 2007".

What better way to start up again...after that 2007 disaster...the bigger ones were getting toooo heavy anyway...

Yeah. I have one that I can no longer lift -- a Podocarpus; great base and trunk, lousy top. I can just manage to drag it across the ground to a more protected spot over the winter. It no longer makes it indoors. Also have a couple that I lift these days only when my back feels great (a rarer and rarer occurrence). I'm gonna have to get rid of them somewhere. (Of course, weather's likely to take care of the Podocarpus some year.)

Most of the rest are under a foot tall now.

But I do find the smaller ones to be a challenge to make look "old" -- especially since I don't like the so-called "sumo" style at all.

"...don't like the so-called "sumo" style..."

They don't strike my fancy either...however, I do appreciate the effort that goes in to them...

Hey, that's inspiring.

Just a few years too. I may have to root some cuttings now (er, or in the Spring).

Thanks, Morten. I got this pot at the National Shohin show at the Green Club, Ueno, Tokyo. The vendor I bought it from said it was more than a hundred years old.

I tend to like to give my trees more root room than most.

Nick and Michael . . . This cutting was from a quite old tree that I was completely redoing. That's why the bark looks so old on this one.
