cedrus atlantica 'glauca' scar healing

I have a non bonsai Cedrus Atlantica 'glauca pendula' which my house rabbit has chewed the bark off one side. Bonsai enthusiasts seem to have more knowledge about bark scars healing than regular gardeners because how the bark looks on a bonsai is important, that is why I am posting here as well as on normal garden forums.

I read on http://www.bonsai4me.com/ that cedars have very slow scar healing, does anyone who grows an atlas cedar know how long it will take to heal? The scar is huge, he has eaten a patch one inch wide by about 6 inches high!

Should I be using a grafting wax or something to protect the tree while it grows new bark?

Any help would be appreciated.

You may want to know he is no longer allowed in the garden especially since he ate the top out of my zelkova (not a bonsai either) also! He seems to do this to be destructive as he does not eat what he prunes off either. BAD BAD BUNNY!

To end this destructive behavior, I would recomend you eat the BUNNY!

I would imagine that bonsai cut paste would at least help to protect the tree while it gets on with healing itself. Or you could make your own from modelling clay and olive oil.

It's a conifer that exudes resinous sap. Hence absolutely no need for cut paste or sealant of any type, in my book.

Is the coat rabbit? I can just see you in a parka!!

We joke constantly about eating the bunny... he is 1/2 Flemish Giant and 1/2 British Giant and weighs in at 5.6kg so he would make a hefty meal, and plenty of pelt for that coat....

Thanks for the advice, I will let the tree look after itself and protect it from any more harm.

Looks like your friend is sporting a semi-cascade I think the bloody rabbit is bigger than both my dogs! LOL Alljoking aside, we have wild rabbits in our yard and the next one the neighbor's cat eats is gonna be his last supper. And I have just the pellet gun to do it!

My last dog was a wee feller, half Great Dane & half Rotweiller. He was 178 pounds (US) when he passed.

Now, the two dogs I have would have fit in the previous ones jowls. Both are rescues, one is a Yorkie, the other a Chorkie (Yorkie/Chihuahua cross)

They're not afraid of anything and have no idia that they are horizontally and vertically challenged!

I like cats too, just not when they are eating the wild birds and rabbits we draw to our yard.

That looks like a smilie to me, or do you mean displayed in your browser... coz I know that when you are posting you can turn smilies off... but didn't think it applied to viewing the same way

On the pet front we have tried to have a bit of everything cat, bunny, tropical fishies and a dog.... ok we didn't try, they sorta chose us, I'm neither cat nor dog person I'm a "if the animal wants to live with me then it can" person... Ok so the fish didn't choose me, but I wanted the aquarium plants see Nature Aquarium to get the idea of why I was interested.

In Australia you get in huge trouble for having a bunny, they are not native and are very destructive, hence my post, especially to some of our delicate native plantsand ecosystems. The only reason I haven't been murdered in my sleep by various neighbours is because they know he has been neutered and isn't going to pass on his large size, and appropriatly large intestines, with it side effect of voracious appetite to any young fiends....

I was positive Australia has bunnies. When I read your post I was shocked to believe I could be wrong so I looked it up on the web. Australia DOES have bunnies!

In Australia and New zealand, they are regarded as destuctive pests, and generally are hated by farmers!! I don't think you should dislike an animal for being what it is, but when they are in the wrong place. . . ! Part of the problem is the lack of preadtors to keep the numbers down.
