Ficus report

Okay folks,

so the guys who grow under lights in the north, say that their ficus never slow for winter.

Down here, temperatures from November were around 70 deg.F [ 21.1 deg,C ] and lowered to January to a few days of 68 [ 20 deg.C ] and 66 deg.F [18.9 deg.C ] from as early as 6.00 p.m until 9 a.m.
Highs floated around 84 deg.F [ 28.9 deg.C ] and 88 deg.F [ 31.1 deg.C ] for about a half and hour.

Ficus b. stopped growing and started a slow process of yellowing leaves and dropping them.
With periods of "warmth" very short extensions of leaves.

Ficus p. [ local willow leaf type ] has no growth, just dropping some leaves.

The earth / sun shift is in progress so the North side of the house is warming up, with more sunlight, by the 26th of February, the zone will have full sun, and the lawn will begin to dry out. The clay soil will crack enough to lose up to an ankle.

The mistake I was making before was not paying close attention to how the shorter days and cold affect the ficus, in those shallow pots [ and a crappy soil mix ]

I have other Ficus types, local and a few foriegn [ I suspect from China ] but with no Latin names, I cannot list them.

I wonder if lifespans are affected if a tree grows without a rest or if the ficus has simply adapted to living down here???
And nothing else is growing.

Temperatures here go down to 0 degrees Celcius in winter but no frost or freezing.

All my Ficus do go dormant then. The old leaves do not shed but the growth points stop growing. My Ficus shed the old leaves in late spring.

About the lifespan being influenced by not getting rest .... I don't think we will ever get an answer.

It does look to me, as mine fucus slow dawn in the winter, if there is not much natural sun and extra warmth comming thrugh the southwindow they grow in....they are back again, as soon as the sun shines, and the temperature go up.
