Why are the threads in 'Top Threads, FAQ's and Tutorials' and in 'Galleries' not in order from most recent posts? The galleries seem to be alphabetical and god knows what order the other section is in. I find it so hard to find the new posts in these sections that I usually just don't bother looking. Anyone agree/disagree? While I am at it - would it not be a good idea to have a separate area other than the lounge for forum feedback and posting problems?
Lee.

Hi Lee.  Let me try to answer your questions hopefully to your satisfaction.

The Galleries are in alphabetical order so it is easy to see at a glance whose is whose.  Remember this section is not for others to post in so there is not the constant updating that you'd find on the other forums.  And any new post in any of the threads will show in red on the index for the gallery forum.

The FAQs, Top Threads etc forum is in the order of the FAQs always at the top as they are stickies and everything else in alphabetical order of the title of the thread. That's unless of course there has been a recent glitch in the system. I'll have a look at that and see for you.  The reasoning behind this was that it was to act as a sort of repository of threads and it was thought it was best kept as a sort of "index" of titles.  Again, any post that has been updated will show in red when you click on to the forum.

And finally, in the consultation exercise a couple of years back it was agreed to keep the number of forums to as much of a minimum as possible as most members found that things got too confusing on other forums where there were forum boards for just about every topic imaginable.  Plus, you're always welcome to PM any of the moderators if there's an issue you want to raise.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Thanks for your reply Fiona. I guess I will just have to live with it then if it bothers nobody else. If two people updated their galleries at a similar time though - only the last to post would show in red on the main forum and the other post would be seen by next to nobody.

That's strange if you're not getting all updated threads showing in red as that is what is supposed to happen, just as in any of the other forums. Let me know in a PM if it doesn't show like that on your system, would you please.

Yes. For instance if you were gone for 2 weeks, ALL post you hadn't read will be marked in red when you return. Or certainly should be.

i agree with Lee on the gallery - - a post beginning with 'A' but never updated stays at the top, new or regularly updated galleries end up further down and often missed. I dont get any posts in red....browse with chrome.....i do use the 'view posts since last visit' option though that finds most new things. trouble with that feature is there could be 100 new posts, i read one, log off for a while, come back and the other 99 are then gone.

generally speaking the most active threads should be at the top of any list and the forgotten ones should slide down into obscurity

cheers Marcus

Like Marcus, I use the
RECENT POSTS
View posts since last visit

option, which can be accessed from the home page. I find it works the best for me.

I suspect that the "problem" with the alphabetic galleries is that we've actually had a few additions of late so the list is getting longer. That was your fault, Marcus, as you asked for more people to contribute.  Very Happy Laughing  Just joking.  Wink

It's six of one whether it's alphabetical or not and we'll take an "executive decision" among the Mods. But I'm more concerned that people aren't seeing the threads with new posts highlighted in red as that implies a system issue.
